I believe in leaders and their actions not whether they are Democratic or Republican or Liberal. Jan 19th will end the era of President Obama, and President-Elect Trump will be sworn in. Thank you to President Obama for the service to this country, when he started, this country’s economy was broken.
The following are suggestions based on my limited knowledge and my discussions with fellow Americans from Illinois, Arkansas, Texas, North / South Carolina, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and DC on what is expected from the new president.
Fix the broken Immigration system
America is built by immigrants, great leaders, and businesspeople who came from other countries and settled here and built big companies producing thousands of jobs. From Albert Einstein to Andrew Carnegie to Arnold Schwarzenegger to Sergey Brin (Founder Google) to Elon Musk (Founder Tesla/SpaceX) to Andrew Grove (Co-founder Intel) to Andreas von Bechtolsheim (Founder Sun Microsystems) to Vinod Khosla (Founder Sun Microsystems), we see business leaders who emigrated to this country and build thousands of new jobs.
The list above doesn’t include non-famous immigrants who created millions of jobs by building small and medium businesses in the United States. A Nation’s growth depends on small and medium businesses who pay more taxes combined compared to corporate world.
Unfortunately, our immigration system is broken or so slow to attract more entrepreneurs across the world who wants to come to this country and create jobs. If you compare with other developed nations like Australia or Canada, the process is so complicated, so expensive, so slow that drives away people who want to come to this country, innovate and create jobs.
Better Business Tax codes
The government should give tax breaks to businesses who create local jobs and consistently maintain them. I am not an expert on this subject, but there are countries which are attracting a lot of Foreign Direct Investment and entrepreneurs to set up a subsidiary there in return for creating local jobs.
Make College Education Affordable
America should have a pool of well-educated youth who can fulfill the needs of large corporations like Google, Facebook, and Apple. Lack of availability of skilled labor and the cost is forcing some of those big IT enterprises to bring labor from other countries. The cost of college education is a part of the problem, where a student is burdened with massive debt coming out of college. https://studentloanhero.com/student-loan-debt-statistics/
Are there not any ways to reduce their tuition fees by Government doing something? Maybe provide some incentives to the colleges and have them pass the benefits to students by lowering their tuition fees. If the mass of people from other developing countries can come to this country and take up jobs, maybe have American students to go to a less developed country to get their degree, when fewer students are opting in, the large universities here will think about making the education more affordable to Americans. None of these colleges, in my opinion, are running broke, many of them are making tons of money from the college football to basketball games. Do something better to help American students and teachers.
Focus internally more
$19.5 Trillion is our current National debt (http://www.usdebtclock.org) and its growing. We have a lot of internal problems which needs to be fixed. Unfortunately, we tend to forget that we have internal problems thereby not trying to fix it.
Veterans
The brave men and women of our Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard are treated poorly in this country. Unfortunately, we can ship Billions of dollars to allies (Many of them hate the US) but not take care of the veterans. This problem needs to be fixed, or citizens will lose faith in the system
Fix the Insurance/Healthcare System
The U.S. ranks worst among 11 wealthy nations regarding “efficiency, equity, and outcomes” despite having the world’s most expensive health care system.
That is true; we rank 1 for the most expensive healthcare system run by pharma and insurance lobbyists but countries like France, Singapore has better health care but less cost for insurance and healthcare. Unfortunately, we are topping the list for wrong reasons here. Again I am not an expert to suggest how to fix it, but someone has to go to the root of the problem and fix it. Hospitals are supposed to be non-profit serving the citizens; there should be some better way to increase the quality of Medicare while reducing the burden on common man. The whole industry needs to be regulated so that common man will not be forced to pay $350 for a pill that costs only $5 to produce.
We cannot take Refugees from Other countries
Seeing what is happening in Germany, I do not think the United States can afford to take in refugees putting the national security at risk. My heart pains when I think about children and women who are in trouble but thousands of refugees entering this country will not help unless the Federal Agencies properly vet them. The biggest problem is, it is not possible to do a proper vetting process for refugees from countries which are in a sad state like Syria. It is questionable, how many countries in the Middle East let in refugees; the answers will be interesting, do your research.
Deport Illegal Immigrants
Illegal Immigrants has to be sent back to their countries of origin. Every country does this. Unfortunately, it becomes a big news only in the US. If you look at countries in the Middle East, our system is much simpler but deporting the alien who is illegally staying here. There are right methods to come to this country and to become a naturalized citizen. Not following that is as exactly like driving a car while impaired.
We do not want to be the World Police anymore
Every nation should protect their citizens, but I strongly feel we should act less of a world police for our good. We got independence on July 4th, 1776, i.e., 241 years ago.
224/241 years, We have been at war with someone. The only time, We went five years without war (1935-40) was during the isolationist period of the Great Depression.
Many of these wars were for allies, many of the wars were based on bad intel, in the Middle East, opening up a new can of worms which threatens us more. The mere fact of having such an enormous national debt and trying to spend trillions of dollars outside the United States will not help this country.
We need to be Self-Consistent
Support different methods to make the US self-consistent. Renegotiate some of the trade agreements to avoid US businesses going broke because of cheap labor in another country like China. Our dependence on Oil has to be reduced substantially, and I believe more affordable Teslas (and its competitors) and Solar City going to help us in the next 10-20 years.
While America is the land of the opportunities, I believe President Elect Donald Trump is right about the fact that we are not the greatest country anymore. There are a million ways to fix it, wishing him all the very best.
